The story so far

20 Aug 2005

This summer we became the proud owners of an 1881 farmhouse, which used to belong to our town founder.  In it's day it was quite a pad.

Anyway, the 70's were hard on this one, however after seing some of the photos you all have posted and remembering an 1888 gem from my earlier years, I am happy to say it is not in horrible shape.  It is livable, and we are moved in, and will start our restoration bit by bit.

The "sun room" on the top of the home was removed in 71 (I beleive), so now we a stairway to no where, as well a couple of very small garages and an enclosed front walkway were added as well.  Here is the house today.

To date we have done some required, but not cosmetic changes.  New electrical service, water softener and some copper plumbing, we have a few windows on order, and I am right in the middle of buiding a play structure for our 4 and 6 year old girls - nothing to do with restoration, but VERY important all the same.

Restoration newbies

I realize now that it may be as important to blog our progress as it is to have progress.

In brief, we are the new owners of an 1881 farmhouse, which was formally owned by the town founder.  Sadly the 70's were not lost on this house and while it is functional, it needs some back dating.  Pictures and entries will follow.
