Season's Greetings!

A quick update on the log room which as you can see from the pics, is no longer a log room.  The room has had it's 1971 renovation removed and if you look at the pics you can see the original size of the window, as well there was a tall window near the back of the room.  The "log" siding will be put to good use -  a mini log cabin playhouse for the young ones this summer.

This room is pretty much ready for lathe and plaster removal - further updates as events warrant...

Well 2005 is coming to a close and I want to wish a Merry Christmas to the rest of you house bloggers - may your tree be piled high with gifts that would only excite a house blogger! (dust masks, drywall gun, bottle jack, heat gun - you know, stuff like that)

The Scab...

You know, a scab, the kind you have no intention of picking at but you do anyway.  This is what my log room has become.  We were never in love with the logs, but decided to tear out the floor, white wash the log wall (store bought "logs" by the way), throw some hardwood down and get on with our lives.  However I decided to take a peak above the false ceiling to determine whether or not we could install recessed potlights.  Soon enough I was picking at the scab and after 3 nights of discussion we have decided everything goes.  The false ceiling, the fake logs, the plaster underneath, etc.

Let me spin this by saying this will give us the opportunity to insulate and re-wire the room, and bring the ceiling to it's original height.  Ironically we now won't have room for the recessed lighting.

It looks like this room once had an archway, as well, prior to that the room extended an extra 12 feet or so.  I am guessing this is it's 4th major renovation.  Take a look at the false ceiling, it is full of true 2x4 x 12' lumber which is straight as an arrow, which is a nice find.  I hope to have those out soon, and start letting the plaster fall during Christmas break - my eyes and lungs aren't quite as excited...
