It's a boy!

Little work has been done on the house as of late, however I am pleased to announce we can finally check "have the baby" off our to-do list.  On the 19th my wife had our son - Dryden McClane is his name.  Cute fellow, but he takes up much of our day (as he should!).

Non the less, I FINALLY finished the fall yard work this weekend - 65 bags of leaves total.  And this afternoon I began correcting the pine baseboards to match some of  the "age slopes" in the dining room.  Realistically we should have that room ready in a week or so, and it will be time to move on to the next one.

How Exciting!

I will admit, this shouldn't be that exciting, but it was a nice find.  I found a great wall register for the dining room today, as well I picked up the pine for the baseboards, so things are moving along just fine on the indoor project.

On the not so exciting new side, I raked another 15 bags of leaves today....

Beautiful Fall Day?

I recall not so long ago staring in awe at the beautiful fall colors in my yard.  Well, today I started raking those colors and bagging them.  Let me tell you, I could right now do without the leaves.  We can't burn in town, and my compost bin is now full - I estimate 60 - 70 bags when all is said and done.  I'm almost hoping for an early snowfall!

I mudded some of the cracks and holes in the dining room, and we have decided on a paint color.  "Blotting Paper" (see below).  Should look good with the dark hardwood, and a wide white baseboard.

The nights are getting cool as we enter the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.  I have 2 cord of poplar to stack and spit, which should take the chill off of the 2nd floor this winter.  It is a bit unusual, but we have a wood stove on the 2nd floor landing which is surounded by the 5 bedrooms.  I am looking forward to pushing some smoke up the stack.

Until next time,

Leigh.

Beautiful Fall Day

The first day of October, the leaves are a beautiful yellow/orange, and the temp is warmer than normal.  What more could you ask for?

A quick building update...  This morning I raised my twisted hallway about 3/4".  It took much longer than I had exected, as well there was an awful lot of weight to lift.  I had one floor joice (sp?) which was at least 5/8 of an inch lower than the others in the basement.  This poor piece of fir was supporting a main floor wall, and a second floor wall.  Non the less, it is raised, the main hall feels firm, and squeeks much less.

As well this afternoon I installed a new kitchen window, which went as if it was on a home renovation show, smooth as silk.

The dining room is stripped clean and on the next rainy day I can patch the nail holes etc, and get ready for some color and moldings.  Oh yes, found 2 old floor registers at a salvage yard on Friday.
